For the Basic Word prescreen search, we search for all the observed trademarks found in both Canada and the United States of America that are phonetically similar to the mark you are searching. Once that search is completed we then prepare additional searches specific to the wares and or services associated with your search request as well as the Trademark Classes applicable. 

The resulting search report includes a more detailed description of the goods and services associated with the mark, the owners name, the application number and a hypertext link to the full text of the trademark on either the USPTO database or the CIPO database.

The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) guarantees that the rights of owners of registered trademarks, in either Canada or the United States, will be preserved and protected in both countries. For this reason it is imperative trademark searches be conducted in both countries. Any search service that does not provide this level of service has only provided you with one half of the required search.

Your search results will come back with three attachments: Our Search Opinion Report, your Extended Preview Report (phonetic matches), and your Executive Summary Report (classification matches).

Your Search Opinion Report includes: 

• Report Comments
• Available domain names to be registered to accompany your trademark
• Invoice
• A description of the Search Parameters and how the search was conducted

Your Extended Preview Report includes:

• The Search Parameters we used
• The Data Sources we searched, and how many 'hits' were found in each
• A Category Summary
• Then the Item Summary, which outlines in detail each item, or 'hit' that was found within the Search parameters in each Data Source.

Your Executive Summary Report includes:

• The Search Parameters we used, and the Trademark classifications that were searched
• The Data Sources we searched, and how many 'hits' were found in each
• A Category Summary/Legend which notes and describes the items in the Item Summary. Such as "Not a Conflict" and "Review" which will need further research.
• Then the Item Summary, which outlines in detail each item, or 'hit' that was found within the Search parameters in each Data Source.
